BFC employees and Phil’s Friends support cancer patients
On Thursday, August 3, 2017, BFC employees took time off from their work routines to volunteer for Phil’s Friends, a non-profit organization serving cancer patients nationwide. This on-site event provided a win-win opportunity for employees to team up alongside those from other departments while giving back to the community.
The event started with everyone viewing an introductory Phil’s Friends video providing insight into the organizations mission and testimonies from cancer patients. Employees were then split up into randomly–selected two-member teams. Each team then worked in an assembly line to pack Care Boxes. Items packed included hats, lotion, fuzzy socks, puzzle books, lip balm, playing cards, tissue packs and blankets. Following the packing process, BFC employees enthusiastically put markers and colored pencils to work in completing shipping box and Hope Card illustrations.
More on Phil’s Friends
Phil’s Friends is the vision of Phil Zielke, a two-time survivor of Stage 4B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Inspired by the thoughtfulness and selfless love of others when he received a care package, weekly encouraging cards and an outpouring of prayerful support throughout his journey, Phil has devoted his life to carrying on this tradition to others. Since 2009, Phil’s Friends engages an army of volunteers that enables the organization to support thousands of cancer patients across the United States through Care Packages, Cards of Hope, Hospital Visits, and Prayer.
How does someone receive a Care Package?
The process is really simple! You can request a free Care Package for a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor or anyone else who you know is battling cancer. Phil’s team just needs to know their name, mailing address and the type of Care Package needed. Does the recipient have special interests? Let them know! They can build a Care Package just for them. Once your request is made, a Care Package full of hope will be shipped within a few days.
